Coming home from fishing late last night I had a blow out on a trailer tire at midnight and it made me think a lot :idea: :idea: ....a good thread here would help others with a list of safety items to always have on hand..(I know we did this before on the old website,but so what)........

Never thought about it if my wife had everything she need in the car if she was coming home late at night on a highway with a flat tire..yeah I know..cell phone...but how bad it could be for a mother and children with no knowledge or proper tools to fix a flat....be able to see in the dark etc...

These came to mind.........

Boat/trailer /Car/Spouses vehicle owners..

1.Maybe TWO flash lights..one back up
2.Maybe an extra ..extra already mounted trailer/truck tire.I think a BOMBA guy once had two flat tires in an evening..destroying all.. OFF to the store with your rig on the highway :lol: :lol: :lol: Not good....woudn`t sit right with me.
3.A good WQRKING..easily functionind JACK...and some blocks and stuff..

Oh.......yeah on the being safe thing........Don`t DRINK AND DRIVE !! Don`t be an idiot.First of all don`t danger others lives .....second,,,,,,,,,can you imagine being on the shoulder of a highway with a flat tire and an officer came over to see how you were???Don`t be an idiot........

If you get a flat tire at midnight and you are sober..........you`ll still be mad..........but it won`t be that bad....Be prepared..........What other things should you have on hand??????????

True story DU it can ruin a trip let alone one night. I carry an orion signaloing kit in the boat which is relatively inexpensive and can hold a few extra standard flares. I believe the coast guard has a checklist of exactly what each boat in each water must carry. Vehicle wise- Make sure your lug wrench actually fits before you need to use it, Check your spare- I carry two for the boat when going any distance, DO NOT USE fix a flat that stuff sucks and ruins tires. You can buy a plug kit at the auto store for like $8 that will fit almost anywhere. Buy a compressor- you can get a cheapie at Wally world for under twenty bucks. Plugs+compressor= fixed tire in almost all situations. Put bearing buddies on your boat trailer and GREASE them. Also be careful at the drive-thru that you dont pop your buddies off on the cement curb. Check the axle alignment on your trailer- a tape measure from the rear of the trailer will tell you if it is off. Ramps are hell on axles and as they settle they will move. You can destroy a tire under a loaded boat in less than 100 miles with a crooked axle.

Don't forget to check the tire pressure in your spares regularly. Even if you (or your wife) know how to change a tire, won't do you any good if the spare's flat too. I learned that one the hard way, luckily not too far from home...
