I just got back from Ludington MCWA board meeting. The walleye guys are happy with the muskie program. Our MCWA web man also does the web site for the Hamlin Lake Association. He said he will check out this link and see about using it to help us with education for Hamlin Lake on their site.

One question that occurs to me: will the startup of the GLS stocking program this year affect the Northern strain stocking program negatively?

Will there be one pond for northern and 2 for GL. How many can be raised in a pond?

There will be a stocking wish list and fish available conflict for next few years until financing is found to expand the whole muskie program. Aside from the muskie program, the whole hatchery system is in grave financial threat which is another topic thread. We'll see what the next lake committee meetings report before speculating further.

I realize maybe this should be another thread, but before we get too excited with what "the plans" are HReef raises a good point. The economy / state government is a wreck. Is there a real possibility the whole thing could be put on hold?

Adam is right. With the state of the economy and state government what we want is at the bottom of the totem pole.

Hey guys, don't give up hope yet. Yes financing will be tough, but that just means we start thinking out side the box for ways to get through this period. I'm sure state staff and others smarter than I are exploring the options. Meanwhile this Musky Production P-Point is good material to use as we seek help. Hang in there.

Yup. No northern strain reared this year, just GLS. Because of that the goal of GLS fall fingerlings has been moved up from 20K to 40K. If the GLS stocking proves to be a success, I'll be all smiles though.

In my round #2 comments to DNR Muskie Management Plan I supported the DNR tentative plan of raising both Northern & GLS the first year. We have many places to stock both. 2011 may or not discover problems with GLS culture. I suspect there will be some culture changes tried in 2011 based on comment suggestions from the out state biologist during the Cool Water Culture Workshop. I like easing into GLS the first year, then have the confidence to go all GLS in 2012.
