Lake ovid

Post by Mus-ski-poor »

Dont go to lake ovid this week. MSU is hosting a rowing competition till saterday the lake is got cables with markers from one end to the other. Also got the ok to use the access site but there was no place to park on tuesday. Just thought it would save some one a wasted trip.

Will they still be there on Saturday?

I called the park office this morning. Bad news the event is this saturday. It took three days to set up the course cant believe it will be removed saturday night. Looks like ovid is out of this weekends ski hunting.

This doesn't mean the whole is off limits does it? Is the entire ramp area closed off for this event or could we still fish it, but just stay away from the rowing area?

According to Slinger who was there today, the ENTIRE LAKE from launch to dam is cabled off with rowing lanes.

Whether you'll even be ALLOWED to launch on Saturday is questionable. Besides, the parking lot is unusable right now, too. They've excavated it down about 16".

and considering MSU is HOSTING the entire Big Ten tourney there for rowing.. good luck finding anywhere to park remotely close to that place.

Im sure it will be completely packed just from parents/fans, and thats even if the lake isn't completely off limits.

Murray last year for that HS bs rowing stuff was packed enough as it is around the boat launch, im just glad i avoid the launch all day.

After talking to Slinger more, the lanes go from almost Price road all the way to N. of the beach! We saw a floating platform at the very N end last weekend and wondered what it was for... They had a weed-eater out there yesterday to clear the lanes, which go right through the weedbed by "the point".

Certainly, the lake will be closed on Saturday.

Some pics...

I wouldn't go there this weekend, if I were you.

You have to admit that it will be a scenic setting for the athletes. Maybe some of them are fishermen. That would be a high-speed trolling run.

Maybe we can sneak in and tie some muskie baits to the backs of their boats. That might slow them down some, but maybe we could catch a muskie or three. Can you picture the winner coming into the traps with a 45'-er thrashing behind it?

Serve 'em right for using OUR lake... [smilie=bs.gif]
