Presentation – Working Structure

This discussion has the potential to go in so many directions and I think we should let it go where it wants at this point. To me, presentation is the effective use of the tools, working structure is intelligent and effective presentation.

How did these chapters change…
– the way you’ll fish old structure
– the way you’ll learn new structure
– the way you’ll use lures as tools

From what I did read about boat position and the diagram shown, start out in the shallows and fan cast out to the breaks, covering all sides of the structure and chose a bait that you can control that will run very near bottom throughout the retrieve and work progressively out to the sanctuary.

In addition, it is easier to control a lure speedwise if you are retrieving uphill rather than downhill, so cast from the breakline out, let it reach bottom and retrieve the lure at a speed that allows you to cover the bottom effectively. Also, by positioning the boat on the break, you can cast parallel to the weedline and cover the area more efficiently. Also noted is if you find fish on the breakline, then check the pockets as well. And along steep breaks, trolling is sometimes the best presentation because you can control the lure at a desired depth and speed easiest by trolling.
