I read my dad's copy of this book when I was in 5th grade and again in 8th(for book reports) I hope I remember it correctly.

Structure=distinct differences in the features of the lake bottom tht seperates it from the surrounding area.

Migration route=

This is a structure feature that fish follow from deep water (sanctuary) to shallow water (feeding area), or vice versa

almost always extending into the deepest water in the area.

Scatterpoint=The water depth/area along a migration route where fish start to seperate from large groups.

A fallen tree isn't STRUCTURE unless a fish uses it to MIGRATE from deep water to a SCATTER POINT during a MOVEMENT. Then it is STRUCTURE.

So a stump field in and man made lake would be structure? If the fish used it to move from deep water to shallow water to feed?

Thanks LeMay OUT

The fish don't move shallow "to" feed, they can feed anywhere they want. So it is structure if they use it to move from deep to shallow. While they are shallow, they might feed, sunbath, or grab a cold one…

I wouldn't call a big flat filled with stumps structure. I would call it cover and would look for the scatter point to that cover. If there are edges of the stump field that create distinctive breaks OR there are obvious pathways within the stump field that fish use as a migration route then it's structure.

I'm in and following along. I did read all or most of this book but it was many, many years ago. I need to get ahold of one again.

I'm in, and trying to figure a way to get a copy of the book without incurring the wrath of She, Who Must Be Obeyed (or SWIMBO, AKA my wife… ) since from her perspective I just blew ANOTHER ~$100 on musky stuff at the Novi Expo just last Saturday. [smilie=brickwall.gif]

So, for now, I'll be just lurking in this thread since I don't have the required textbook yet. Embarassed

Too bad… I would have advised you spend the money on the book first.
