My boat's 2nd 22 pounder this season. Also got a 20.5 and a 17. Not bad for a rookie!

Nice job Kid, there are definitely some big fish out there this year. We caught a 19 pounder this morning and I looked at it and kinda shrugged and said I thought it was about 14 pounds. It looked small. Most years a fish around 20 is huge and this year its just about the average for adults. Not a lot of fish but they haven't been this big since the late 1990s.

Its possible, and depending on who you believe has already happened 🙄. There have however been several 34-38 confirmed on certified scales. My friend got a 37.2 2 weeks ago that made my jaw drop. It was easily the biggest fish he had ever seen in over 2000 career days on the lake.

Nice fish man. My brother and I fight over what's better the Muskie strike and battle or a big king that puts up an epic fight. I'm spoiled though I gotta salmon fish in Alaska.. My brother is new at the sport 2nd year running the boat. Last week out of holland he fished 3 days and took 30 fish most was 12 for 16 but all fun days on the lake and he only runs 6 lines. 4 fish have hit over 18 pounds but the biggest was 21 I think. I know that a 32 pounder was taken from up north in manistee county I could go for that fish on the end of my line. I actually took a king, steelhead and my first laker last weekend and was going for the "fishing cycle baby!" But had boat troubles and was rowing around on thorn apple so the cycle will have to wait… I'd love to catch a Muskie, pike, steelhead, lake trout and king salmon in a day… My question is who has done that here… It has to be a small list at best

I think a big king will out fight a ski. BUT,….. let me say this: I have never caught a truly big ski to compare the two. Also we use "overkill" tackle when muskie fishing. Get a good one(muskie) on 20 pound mono say on a down rigger rod and things would be way different than these cue sticks with the drags on lock down! However,..a wise man once told me "with muskie its about the BITE, with salmon its about the FIGHT".

I'd say Id agree with most of that. I never really enjoyed fishing with charters and reeling in kings on soft rods, and not having to do any of the work. I do like going out there and figuring it out myself, but its more for the satisfaction of finding them and doing the work than the fight for me. Put them in a small river however (not dirty gross spawned out fish) and the fight thing goes thru the roof! I looked up at one from ankle deep water today for about 5 out of 7 minutes that I fought the thing. IT was fighting so hard when it jumped its tail was fluttering thru the air like an old junk pickup dragging a tarp down the road.
I've had some skis do some pretty amazing things, but like you said its a little muted because of the size of the taclkle.
Speaking of giants tho, here is a pic of one my brother caught friday, it bottomed out a 30 lb boga… I will let you decide how accurate they are, but in my history they are pretty darned close.

Some of them have been in the rivers for awhile, there's always some early runners.

Vano that thing is awesome. I'll be on the PM for four days over Labor Day weekend and I'm hoping to see a few like that.

Yeah, they've been in the normal few northern early rivers for a bit now. And over the last week have started moving kinda in and out of the lower rivers in the central few lake michigan tribs.
I fished the little manistee teusday and we hooked about a dozen, landed zero… had a chance of landing maybe two. the rest were giants and we had no hope. My buddy hooked a couple on "flies" and the rest were hooked on thundersticks/minnowraps, or streamers. We saw a couple hundred fish from the weir down to the mouth.
