Jim, I fish with my dog Jasper, Australian cattle dog, quite often. He loves the boat and wants to retrieve about every cast and is very intensely watching every figure 8. I take Jasper to shore after about 4 hours, just as I would myself if I had to POOP!
This one whines too if she has to go.. As far as taking the big lab, I cant do topwater, as she growls and feigns attack mode on it when it comes to teh boat…the smaller one just watches-not sure what she did yesterday when I was running around the boat trying to land that fish..

Mskprey, Jasper whines or makes other weird noises when he has to go as well. It's funny you mention the growling with topwaters. Jasper does exactly that for the first few hours when his adrenaline is really pumping but then starts to chill a bit. When I step on the trolling motor pedal he knows that I won't be casting so he looses interest momentarily but as soon as I take my foot off the pedal, noise stops, he is at high alert, knowing a cast is coming. When karen fishes and is casting from the back of the boat he will race between front and back to watch the cast and retrieve.
