As soon as we pulled into Las Vegas Bay the surface erupted with shad and stripers chasing them. We spent the next two hours chasing shad schools around the bay casting to the boils, the action was just about non-stop, mostly 2-5# fish. Threw three inch shad bodies on ½ ounce jig heads burned them back as soon as they hit the water.

Fishing slowed down as the sun gained height so we moved around to shaded bays or looked for flocks of birds. Still caught fish just not on every cast or two.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife plants trout in the southern portion of the state between Thanksgiving and Christmas, Lake Mead on Fridays. The true trophy fish come up to feed on these plants. The best time to fish trophies is Saturday and Sunday following the trout plantings. Unfortunately the NDOW truck had engine problems on Friday and had to be towed to another lake to dump the fish so that hindered our trophy hunting, we did spend two hours trying to troll up a monster but that wasn't in the cards for us.

All in all a great time I lost count in the high 30’s on number of fish, Mrs. Pimp and Cap’n Bob figured between 30-50 fish each. Biggest were in the 7-8# range.
