Saturday was mostly a maintenance day for me. Had some engine issues at the end of last season that I had to fix before my first trip of the season, so I spent most of the day under the hood fixing the drive shaft on the ol' Johnson but once I got her back up and running I took her out for a few hours. Torch was my original plan since it was the only lake completely open but there was a small craft advisory with high winds so I changed my plans. With the chain still 98% locked up (excluding Torch) my only other option was the north end of Intermediate and the very south tip of Hanley at the rivermouth. I cruised around Intermediate for a few making sure the engine was running well and then casted the break for a bit before heading into Hanley. I didn't have much area to work with as everything north of the first neckdown was still frozen, so I just circled the bowl casting glides and twitch baits until dark. The warming water had the pike going crazy in there. Caught 7 and lost a handful of others, but I was not able to find any muskies. Still, the fresh air and time on the water was much needed.
