Landlocked isn't really a proper term. Dam-locked is more appropriate.

I have edited the map Tom posted to show where the dams are located (blue) that keep the Elk Chain fish from going back and forth to Lake Michigan (orange) and the Intermediate Chain fish from going back and forth into the Elk Chain. These fish were here long before anyone thought of putting dams in and they have held their own spawning for many years despite heavy spearing.

Here's a link to a good site with info and maps of upper and lower chain.

The one labeled Round Lake here is Skegemog. (I don't know why…)

That's the other name, many of our lakes have other names. Hudson is aka. Bear Lake, etc, etc.

I got into one on Torch in 2007 . On a 12 inch deepthreat in 45 feet of water. Turned a 7 foot Tiger rod into a noodle . Then tossed the hooks with two massive head shakes. That happened the day after Michelle got her 51.5 on Elk. Big fish are there throughout the system. Its a slow bite as we went 1 for 2 in 5 days the last time we were up there. Thats daylight till dark for 5 days rain or shine. You need to have things to talk about inbetween rips as it gets real long after about day three with out any action. That fish will lose a lot of weight in the coming month. My guess is after the spawn she will be a 38 to 42 pounder . I wont go after her until Fall. September and October maybe 15 days total so you guys have until then to catch her first. Mike

Sorry to bring back an old thread and Im not sure if this was posted on an earlier thread but I read that this monster tagged was confirmed to be the same fish that was taken last September by Kyle Anderson as the new state record for Great Lakes Muskie.
