I am asking each of you for a small favor or two or three. Next time you are out fishing ski's or near a lake/river with ski's take a look at the DNR launch. Then please answer these quick questions.

1. What is the name of the lake/ river,(county)

2. Does the DNR provide a sign board/kiosk for posting information at that launch? Or are all the signs on posts? If it is a kiosk, is it open or glass covered and locked?

3. Is there an existing MMA muskie sign at that launch?

If the DNR does not have a launch on that body of water, or if there are other non-DNR launches as well.

Is there contact info as to who maintains the launch? Lake association, township?

Do they have kiosks? Or signs on posts? If it is a kiosk, is it open or glass covered and locked?

Thanks in advance!

Dave, this is for Lake Hudson, Lenawee county. There is a enclosed board there with a lock, not alot of room in it. They used to put a know the difference sign on the post next to the launch, it's gotten ripped off every year. If they re-arranged the board, I don't know if the sign would fit, hope this will help. Hudson has a couple nice 4×4 wood posts near launch site that could have
"unremoveable" signs posted (and off from lramp a case..which few read I suspect..)…Also a garbage drum is usually there near launch site which could have a sign on it…which would eb hard to remove if one the can secure..
Its a state park so a ranger office nearby we could contact/work with ..but as noted
any nice sign is popular..tends to get ripped off..
(and in any case I dont think there are many if any N Pike in the lake..so "know difference" may not be relavant..but size limts/release info / MMA info would be..)
As noted at meeting apparemtly we cant use the new Cabellas /MInc signs..
at DNR sites..they are pretty nice..(Have safe release info etc..)

You really might want to think about putting a sign on a post down there! Saturday morning we were the first to get there. Next to the boat launch are 2 picnic tables and 2 trash cans. One was on shore smoldering, the other was in the water, along with a busted up picnic table, where the other picnic table was, who know's. Think about the people you are trying to teach about muskie's and they are doing this!! Steve

Hey Pimp

Not sure if you got that email from me so I'll give you the updated version here…..A list so far of sites that have signs posted.

Ford River Mouth Launch (New sign – signboard)
Rapid River Mouth Launch (unusable launch at this time – low water levels
are to blame – Old sign still in good shape)
Cedar River Mouth Launch (New sign – signboard)
McKeever, Grassy, Petes (New signs at each launch – signboards at each launch)
Nahma Launch (New sign – signboard)

When I spoke to Hiawatha National forest personel responsible for the lakes within their area they seemed to be completely on board, so I left one with them to post wherever they wanted at the wilderness area at Big Island Lake.
Still working on many others, contacts and posts for signs at sites that do not have signboards.

I have never seen one at any of the launches on the Detroit river. They are all private except for the ecorse ramp wich i beleive is owned by the city. I could inquire about posting them if you like.

I've never seen a MMA sign at Campau. Might be nice to have. My brother caught his first ski there last summer, and a local told him it was a pike… (39"er) he almost kept it, until he looked in the DNR book and counted the holes under its mouth.
