Talking to a guy at work who fishes Whitmore Lake and was asking me why we weren't putting any regular Muskies in Whitmore, cause the Tigers are long gone and the spearing ban is still in place. He also wanted to know if we were trying to have a Muskie lake in every county in the state. Steve

No, there wouldn't be any way to have a muskie lake in every county, there are way too many counties. Rivers could be the next great expansion in the muskie fishery though…

Whitmore is not an option because of long term studies that it is involved in at this time. The DNR couldn't trust any data gathered if muskies were introduced to the lake.

I know it is involved in a bass study and if I remember right it was an eight year study. There was another mentioned but I can't remember what it was right now.

When did these studies start and what are they trying to find out? Steve

I believe that the bass study is part of a mortality study with a few other lakes. The study began the same year as the C&R bass season and if I remember right was a 4-8 year study. When I was talking to the Lake Erie Management Supervisor about Whitmore I remember thinking that the study was long enough that it put Whitmore down the wish-list for a while.

Muskies in the Grand someday? There's a nice big pool above the dam in Lansing… 😀

I think there are already some muskies roaming around in the grand. Could be wrong though.

There are some big everythings roaming around in the grand west of Jenison. Never caught a Muskie, but lots of Pike and Large Walleye around the holes by the old submerged channel pilings etc..

I wonder if they are studying thier Walleye plants as well. I did a lot of diving in Whitmore last year and saw a lot of big ones.(walleye that is).
I would love however to see our beloved fish in there once again.
