I have not been that big into modifying my stuff. I think the most I've ever modified something was some custom bending on some 10" Jake lips which actually worked out really well. One that I did makes it kind of dive & walk the dog. The other just makes it go a little deeper. The next thing I want to try is filling them with water. I have 1 squirely Jake that fills up after a little soak time, and love the action of it. Besides those, everything else I own is taken out of the package, and given a drink.
I'll have to look through my boat and see if I can find a lure that hasn't been modified in some way. I might have a couple. A few mods that I make often… changing hooks to change buoyancy, removing/changing hooks to improve hooking, bending a tow eye to make something run shallower or deeper, adding weight, taking out wieght, cutting off parts of a lip or tail or fin, changing clevises or wire thickness on bucktails, fill w/ foam, etc., etc.
This comes with drawbacks though… I've easily destroyed more than a hundred lures over the years.
