Kinda what I guessed…….
It`s pretty hard to get numbers of people together with their schedules. It`s hard enough gettin a small group to go down to indiana in april,or just getting a group together @ovid,iintermediate,and I wonder how many people would really show for a northern mi. outing(cheboygan area),heck even Wixom. But there`s a fair club base in midland, etc.
I`ve always wanted to get a group together (maybe 3 or 4 cottages full, and 4-8 boats)to like LOTW or eagle,or hell even kawarthas like some other chapters do in Canada.I think the best thought should be although it`s a good idea, maybe everyone just plan summer/fall vacations as usual, get your own small group together, easier just talkin to one or two others to make the trip happen.Being so far away and needing committments/reservations so far in advance could be a headache…
I do have a thought of a group family camping outing somewhere up north with some wilderness flair…I believe there`s a campground on Chicagon lake.A couple of club members have been there and I`ll get with them.I believe they really liked it and you had the mixed bag of smallies, walleye, pike and muskies, plus a bunch of lakes down the road.Maybe 2007 maybe 08'.But I`ll do a little research with a very LONG HEADS UP..so folks can plan accordingly.More than likely mid to late august as we will still have fairily long days, cooling temps, but still nice for the youngsters..
WHAT YA THINK ??

Kid…..this is different.Getting up in the northwoods, sittin by a fire, relaxin, fishin a few days. It`s not chewing Buck Perry,or readin Buck Cherry,or messin roun with the KID………..you see the KID is a mighty dagerous musky stick, with a mighty dangerous boat and HAM SAMMICH to boot.Who wants to mess with those odds
Seriously I love you and I`ll never forget how nice you looked shirtless in my rain suit at eau de toilet. We were truly the village people 😯
But …..you are right about group attendance.Bomba knows it,Will knows it.Hell………we only got 4 people to show up at a gander meeting and two were from muskegon and zeeland !!!!!!
I`ll set it up the way I want, give everyone enough time………and who ever shows up…shows up.No biggy……..me and a few will be there at least and that`s all that matters..the effort. 🙄 🙄 🙄 Then again…..Bomba won`t show,Musky Dan will loose his outboard motor shroud somewhere on hwy 2,Larry will be somewhere over the state line in vilas county,Mikey will be playing shuffle board at some bar in iron mountain, crystal falls and loose his voice…………wait………..you`re right…I`ll probably be sittin in front of the fire with my only two friends…the squirrel and show me burger with a side of CC.

Hi Dave, as you know Michelle and I love the U.P. The campground at Chicagon is all dirt and dusty. There are many nicer ones in that same area. The state park just west of Crystal Falls is very nice and there is access to three Good Musky lakes and the Paint river within 15 minutes of the camp. We always stay there as we can reach , Emily,Smokey ,Chicagon,Paint river and Even Peavey Pond from there. It has nice grassy sites that are shaded with great showers and close access to food and fuel stores. Its Bewabic state park campgrounds. There are also many other very nice rustic campgrounds on some of the eastern lakes . It might be cool to meet some of our northern members for a campout on the east side. I have shared the water with John Nutkins (John Esox). We have some members up there who are good eggs. Depending on the weekend Michelle and I would be interested in a trip to the U.P. in Early September or early June. July brings nasty flies that bite hard up there. September can be very nice and comfortable with temps in the 50's at night and upper 60's during the day. Mike and Michelle
I second Mike's endorsement of Bewabic State Park and have been there atleast 3 times. It's 142 miles from Indian Lake near Manistique. The first thing I noticed driving in on my initial visit was a group of deer moving through a section of the park. You can set up in a very wooded or romote area like that or an open loop of sites near a bath house. The small chain of lakes (Fortune Lakes) is very scenic and I understand it is or was excellent for bluegills. The park is overall very hilly and you're surrounded by thousands of acres of dense forest.
I had used the park as a base and visited Lake Emily and also the Paint River. I caught 1 ski on Emily and 3 on the Paint, but nothing over 44 during my three day and last visit several years ago. One odd thing about this State Park; it's the only one I've seen with a tennis court. My understanding is some rich dude that liked visiting the park gave the money to the State to build the court. I never saw anyone playing there however.
Another gorgeous UP State Park located on Lake Michigamme is Van Riper State Park in Marquette County. There are NM in the lake but did not see any on my last visit. The pines are fabulous in this park located in the heart moose country.
All this talk rekindles my love for camping.
