Talk to Chad Sandy… Trolling pimp…I'm in no way to give an opinion on rod holders but fishing with Chad I've noticed he switched for Salty DownEast to Folbe's. I messed around with both and those Folbe's are sweet!! Much easier to get rod out of holder, they simply lock rod in place with ease and seem to work well. Talk to Chad.. He'll set you in the right direction but seriously check out those Folbe's. I'm not a troller and was impressed.

I like my Downeasters,..always have. I have a simple railmount set up on my Crestliner. Only prob so far is my downrod holder slowly spins a little on the rail with hard pulling baits and if your not watching(like me because Im driving/back turned) the rod/reel will be straight up and down!
I would hate to lose the whole set-up because of this. It does have the rubber pad things, and I even put nuts on the bolts to really cinch' er down but it still happens.

I like my Down East rod holders as well. Never had a problem. I haven't seen the Folbe's so I can't comment on them.

Chad, why did you switch?

I like my Salty's, too. I worried about plastic holders getting brittle in cold weather. I don't have Kid's problem because mine're mounted on tracks, not rails.

Track mounted Down easters here. ALL S-10 double clamp models. I have heard the Folbe's rod holders are real strong. I dont trust plastic or any composite however. I will not switch. Mike

Well, the best/cheapest place to get them would be here. There are some on there from time to time. Do a search. There was some on there not too long ago.

I switched because DE's are a pin to take off. I can't put my cover on with the DE in place. Also, the DE's get in the way when casting.

With the Folbe's they pop right out to address these issues. The other thing is, the DE's are a little tricky for people not familiar with how to use them.

So far my evaluation of the Folbes is positive. I like them a lot. If you have the issues i listed above, consider the folbe's, otherwise, can't go wrong with DE's

I got my DE at one of the muskie shops but I dont remember what one off hand. I think it was Pasticas? They were about 5 bucks cheaper than everywhere else(rail mount).

I'll have a Folbe at the lure swap if you're looking for a spare.
