Guys,

I've been reading a lot about Tuff Shads lately on other boards, seeing as how they are hard to come by now. I was wondering what about them makes them different from other shad style baits out there. Do they suspend longer than most other baits…do they have a more enticing wobble…what is it? (I'm talking about casting them, not trolling)

HAHAHAHA – the magic lure… a TS isn't a magic lure. Like any lure that becomes "hot to the public" there's someone else catching just as many fish on a different lure in the same situation/water. I would be interested to see a poll on this board of how many people own a DCG, DC-10, etc. and how many people have caught fish on them… but they had to buy it.

The tool is only as good as the situation the angler puts it in. There's a casting bite on Webster in the winter where the TS works well but there are five other lures out there that work just as well.

Depth and speed control.

Back to the question… the TS was made with mohogany in the later models. The dense mohogany makes for a better casting bait because it will suspend better. The TS really seems to shine as a trolling lure because of the unique action and running depth.

I think <url url="[Permission to view this media is denied]
">** you do not have permission to see this link ** have the right idea… it's not the lure; it's location, depth and speed.

I bet you could catch a muskie with their Crappie Loor in the right place with proper presentation:

I know you like *AHEM* multi-colored things, but it's location, depth and speed, my friend… 😀

Tuff Shads are in my opinion better than Bagley Monster Shads and Hooker G AND M shads. I have trolled them all and Tuff Shads out produce them all. But as Will has stated there are others who use other shad style baits and clean up . My new Rippin Shads with the wire thru that we sold in Chicago have been tearing it up in Kinkaid, Webster and Ohios Leesville res. Not many of them out there and I have orders to fill for more of these little gems. I have a new casting version I developed for Indiana Guide Vince Weirick. He will be testing them this winter. Suspending 4 inch shad bait made from hard wood. Brads Badd Shad has caught some Pike for me here on Hornungs Duck Lake at the new house. I have been row trolling them with my Canoe. The thing about Tuff Shads is they have to be trolled slow. Pulling them too fast just makes them blurr out. 2.8 mph gives them a real nice shimmy like a threadfin shad. Ill never part with mine and I have some of the old cedar ones that are real gems. Chris made his first ones out of Cedar before changing to Mahogany. He was having problems keeping paint on the cedar. My cedar ones have so many teeth holes in them paint doesnt matter any more ha ha ha . Last winter Chris said he wasnt going to build any more of them and there was a big rush to buy them up and many went on Ebay for up to 60.00 each. Now he is making them again. I dont think the 6 and 8 inch models are as good as the 5 inch one. I sold all of my bigger ones as they never produced for me. The 5 inch models are real good lures thats for sure.
