Ive had a loon chase my trolling motor on the back of my boat up in canada. He followed us around for a while, must of liked the sound of the prop.

Had them chase double 10's up to the boat as well.

The best is when you get near a family of them and the parents freak out and start doing the MJ Moon walker across the water in front of you.

They eat an insane amount of food in fish every day. Sometimes they are very curious, but most of the time if they are diving under they are down being eating machines

Do they eat their catch underwater, or do they bring it to the surface to swallow, like cormorants do? I didn't see it eating anything.

they usually just swallow under water, i too have never seen them eat anything above water. They will if you watch them, poke their head under water while floating along to look for schools of fish. Then they dive under

I hate those comarants, they are actually a huge problem up on the canadian shield lakes. You can get licensed to carry a shotgun in you're boat and shoot them from your boat. Least that is what the locals up there told us

We used to have cormorants around here, too, but I haven't seen a single one this year, and saw very few last year.

I once had some weird critter flashing by the boat under water, WTF? Looked like a penquin but even I knew there's none of them in the UP. Turned out it was a loon trying to scare me away, I was right next to the small island where he/she was nesting.

A sad thing to watching a pair of loons looking, and crying, for their young ones that had all been picked off by an eagle.

Not so sad for the eagle, or their eaglets back at the nest! And not so sad for all the little fishies nearby who their mommies won't be crying for because those loons weren't there to terrorize anymore.

Sorry, just kidding couldn't help myself had to be a jerk for a moment. I know you are not one of those people Rick… I am not mocking you!

To see a large loon chasing your lure, then swim under your boat, really is a sight. The first time I saw it (western u.p.) actually scared me, didn't know what the hell it was. Then I realized it was a loon and eluded insanity for another day!!!! But them birds sure are quick and agile underwater.

it is fun watching them wobble as they swim. They look like big footballs
