This is all great stuff, and besides all the learning to better our fishing, and the handling tips to benefit the fishery for even better fishing, there's another key element I'd like to see, and that is what each of us can give back to the cause besides sharing info etc. I don't want to preach here, since in recent times I've been more selfish than most, mainly just enjoying my membership for all it does to benefit me, meanwhile the core few of the club do everything for the rest of us.
So what I'm proposing is maybe something like this: Each member can pledge to do one substantial thing besides paying their membership dues and enjoying some events. This can be a major contributing role in one of the events, or if really pressed for time maybe an extra donation if they can afford it, for example I thought it was great when a bunch of us stepped up to fund the aerator at Wolf Lake this year, and it helped ease my guilt since I'd been so lazy and selfish about giving more time to the cause.
I'll get off my pedestal seat now, again I'm not pointing fingers since I've been into this more for selfish reasons than most, so I'd like to repent by doing something further and am asking others to consider doing the same, maybe even with a promise made on the web site to help us in following through with it.
Split from another topic…
Things that always need another hand or a volunteer:
– Banquet Set-up (banquet team usually needs a few extra hands for paperwork)
– Fish Fest (at least four people on each day)
– Bruce Memorial (registration, food, raffle)
These are just a few and there are always, things that come up. I think there is at least one outing that we don't have someone to chair. We also need someone that is willing to do the work to set up a chapter trip. Something like the Cedars trip but to somewhere in the UP (westside or eastside).
OK this is worth a try even though it's kinda corny…
My pledge for something over and above my dues in 2009 is to help set up at the banquet, arriving 2 hours early or whatever is needed, and to contribute at least $50 extra to the general club cause or specific extra club need during the year.
Who's next?

I'm new to this too, but would love to assist in any way I can for a UP trip.

I helped out at the Fish Fest this year. It was a great experience. We had 3or4 people there, and it rained about 6" that day. I can just imagine how busy it would be with a NICE day! Also got to learn a bunch from other booths, learned about DNR surveys, and also saw the building where they raise the muskies. I recommend this experience to everyone!
Thanks for the responses. What I was hoping for is a bunch of us making a specific pledge here so we're more obligated to follow through on it in 2009. I'll stick with mine above, and am giving this one last try to put it up at the top of these threads one more time, trying for more bites…
Thanks all, and Trevor, I'm at the banquet as early as you need me, and can throw in and extra $50 toward any expenses that need it (or will use that for something else).

). He's asked anyone who wants to volunteer to help next time to send him a PM, I think.
