This was clearly a 60# beast with a head the size of a shovel. Cyberlunge attracts these goliaths and shouldn't be suprised. I think its fairly obvious what hapened here. The reef hog (8") and leader (16") were engulfed into the massive jaws of Ms. Piggy 2 ft up the line… which was then severed by razor sharp monster musky teeth! At least thats the way I see it, OR it could be that I haven't caught a fish in two weeks and tonight kicks of SHARK WEEK! [smilie=2thumbsup.gif] Tuff break Kev (no pun intended) 😯
Adam it was her I'm sure of it!! Ryan – it was 100# power pro I check the first ten feet about every fifteen casts looking for any issues, it was good. I think the fish swirled and took the bait head first and caught the line above the leader in the process. I have caught large fish in that area, I believe this one could have eaten them 🙄 that sounds better than nicked line anyway!! Just hope I didnt kill it.

Yeah, my post was pretty pointless. I figured you and most everyone else already knew that.
Once while fishing with my Dad on the Pere Marquette I watched him break off two nice kings in a row, and lose 2 flatfish, before he realized a cracked eye on his uglystik was causing his 20lb fireline to snap. Actually we got the second flatfish back when the fish went airborne seconds after breaking off and threw the bait. The bait floated downriver right back to us and we scooped it with the net. I thought it was pretty funny, he didn't.
I remeber reading something on the musky hunter forum a while back about how Steve Heiting would tie some type of knot to where the last 16-20 inches of line before the leader was actually doubled up, giving you kind of an emergency leader in case the fish or a rock only cut 1 of the 2 lines. I tried it at the time and it wasn't bad, just a little tricky to tie right. I don't use it myself, but might be something to consider.
The weird thing is this is the third time I have had this happen and it was all in the same body of water and its associated river. The first time was years ago on much lighter tackle the next was trolling a steep weedline with my new frog jointed slasher the hit was so hard it doubled the rod to the water then nothing. I turned off the outboard looked at Pimp and said WTF just happened? I sat there for a few minutes and then the lure, leader and about ten feet of line floated up I cant even comprehend quite how it had to hit to make this happen.
