The responce to why my unit wont mark a Bondy Bait. Its only like 6 years old and cost me 400.00 back then !! At the time it was one of their top shelf models. Thoughts fellas??
Mr. Schaap,
Thank you for contacting Humminbird. The Wide 3D Paramount will not show a jig. The technology was not as advanced when these models were manufactured so they will not pick up a jig. There is not anything wrong with your unit itβs doing what it was designed to do. Should you need further assistance, please let us know.
Thank you,
Sequenthia Smith

Questions or Comments: Hey guys I have a older unit its a wide 3d Paramount.
I was wondering why it would not mark my muskie jig.
This jig is big around 8 inches. Its a rubber type material. Even right below the transducer it would not mark my jig.??? The unit seems to be working fine and the diognostic tests are all good. Any ideas. ?? Thanks -kelly
I think they're thinking a 1/2 oz walleye jig and not a 7oz jig the size of the fish it should be marking. There is no reason you shouldn't be seeing that jig on your graph. If you are running it in "auto" then it's probably eliminating surface clutter and noise. As noted by Hemi, take it off auto and turn up the sensitivity until you see the jig.
Also… you might be surprised how little movement from the boat it takes to move a jig out of the cone. If your transducer isn't perfectly flat the cone might be missing the jig completely. I know when I'm watching a jig that if I move from one side of the boat to the other it will tilt the transducer enough that the jig will be outside the cone.
My opinion is that I don't care if I can see a vert. jig on my graph or not.
Good thoughts, TX fellas.
* I made it clear this was a BIG jig !
* I might have to play with the transducer angle. With the kid's "ballast" in the rear it might be shooting forward a bit ??
* A couple seasons ago a Humminbird "card reader" told me their units mark the size of the fishes swim bladder. ??
* Yes I have played with the sensitivity. Sucks because if you turn it up to much the unit will mark the tops of weeds as big fish(with fish ID++ on).
Took me a 1/2 season years back to figure that out. There were times where the muskies were so thick you could walk across their backs!!
Turns out its just weeds.
Keep it going fellas, this sonar stuff is a good topic.

Agreed, Mike
Actuall I was partially wrong.. the worst invention is that stupid beeping that you can hear across the lake when someone has their fish ID on w/ the alarm.
With the humminbird the fish ID shows what side of the boat and in what beam the fish is in(dark, light or hollow fish simble)(my unit has 6 beams). If I switch to raw sonar how do I tell where what Im looking at is? I read back through the manual but I didnt see anything. I dont think it matters alot do to the shallower lakes I fish, but if really deep those beams could cover a pretty wide spread. ?????
And the winner is,…………. Big Will Schultz. Cone(s) angle was off. I still cant believe I couldnt mark the jig before because I had that thing dancing all around the transducer. Anyway, I played out at Campau today and spent some quality time with my unit.<– insert joke here.
The people at Humminbird can sure sing and dance, but they cant trouble shoot with crrrrap in their pants !!
Jig is marking sweet as long as the boat isnt moving very fast. –TX brothers.

Any time I turn mine off, I never see arches. I've called it a couple times trolling where I'll mark the "big fish symbol", and 10 sec. later, a fish hit. I don't mark any bait balls with it off either. Also, any idea why more fish show up on the screen after dark? Sorry for the hijacking, Kid!
I was playing with my 787 humminbird the other night out at Bankson and dropped a dawg down where I am used to the "cone" being, but couldnt pick it up, I eventually found the cone forward left and it lit the screen up.
my favorite fish finder was an X75 Lowrance that could pick up 1/8inch jigs deeeeep.

As mentioned before running in auto will have a lower sensitivity, increasing the sensitivity will show you more in the water. The quality of the graph is also a huge factor in what it will show you. To see arches you have to get the whole fish in the cone and depending on your speed you may not see an arch but just a line across the screen.
