What's the best way to weigh down bucktails? I've heard of using the rubber-core sinkers. Pop out the rubber, and clamp it down to any part of wire shaft. Is that the best bet? I have some regular sinkers squeezed on some of mine right now, but I'd like them to be a little heavier.

That will definitely work, but you can also get some bucktail shafts and egg sinkers to make your own. Just transfer all the components from the bucktail you want weighted over to the new shaft with the desired weight.

Are you talking about keel weighting homemade tails? If you are I use an egg sinker at the back end of the bucktail just before the hook and flatten it to keep it from spinning.

I've used the rubber core sinkers on spinnerbaits with good results, never tried them on bucktails…. seems like it should work just fine.

Casting Sinkers, aka Bell or Teardrop, (#7 in photo) will work and are available at most shops.

I like the round weights the best (see #4 in pic below). These are different from drop shot weights.

With either weight you can attach them to split rings on the bait or add a split ring to the weight and add it anywhere you want.

You've never experienced a lower hooking percentage with this? I do like this idea, seeing as how it seems quick to put them on, or take them off.

In a hurry I robbed some of snap weights and used them on my dbl 10's, on the top split ring and since they are longer your hook will rub on them. I've nearly cut some of these sinkers in half, probably could hurt a hookup, but I haven't had a problem. Thats why the round sinker would be better, no hook rub, no dulling of your hook also. Since shrink tubing is on the bottom hook, usually end up putting the weight on the top ring.

No, but if it concerns you split ring it to the bucktail shaft anywhere between the hooks w/ a small split ring.
