I know it seems like a long way off, but this kind of thing can creep up on us quickly. Matt G and I have been trying to organize this thing and its coming along pretty well.
The biggest issue with a lot of people going is to be where to stay. I have taken the liberty of contacting the people I know up there about accommodations, and getting an idea of availability. The three easiest places to stay are going to be these:
-Yettaws cottages on St Clair lake. I have reserved the house, which will hold 7 people, for the weekend. The total cost of the house is $300 for the weekend, so I really hope I don't have myself a loner $300 getaway! There are 4 beds ( a queen, a full, and 2 twins) and a pull out couch. There is plenty of room in the living room for an air mattress too. Like I said I have already reserved this, and have 4 or 5 spots left. Being on St Clair, access is limited to Stclair and Six-mile, unless you have a smaller boat that can fit into Ellsworth, then access to the whole upper chain is feasible. Trailering your boat isn't that hard either. Their website is <url url="[Permission to view this media is denied]

-Cedars Resort on Ben-Way Lake. I have contacted them, and they currently have 2 of the 4 cabins available for that weekend. Their capacity is 4 per cabin, and the rate is $240 per cabin. Ben-way does have better access to the rest of the lower chain, and leaving your boat on the trailer to get to Six-mile is the best bet from there if that is you desire. Please let me know if you want to stay at either. I have an open line of communication with the people at Cedars and can reserve 1 or both of the cabins at any time.
-As for a camping option, there is the Wooden shoe campground in Ellsworth. It is on the northern shore of Ellsworth Lake and would have good access to the lower end of the chain. Their website is no longer available, but the rates are cheap, they have room for campers or tents, and you can beach your boat overnight if you want. The village of Ellsworth is holding an archery tournament that weekend and they are expecting to have quite a few people stay there for that, but normally have more than enough openings that time of year. As I mentioned the village is holding an archery tournament that weekend, and local space is going to fill up considering there isn't much of it available in the first place. If you are going to stay at the campground, I encourage you to let people on here know, so you can camp together. If you want to stay at Yettaws with us, let me know, and we can all work on arrangements. And, if you want to go to Cedars, let me know and I will reserve it and can take care of the rest later.
We will have another post closer to the date with more specifics on a cookout, and meeting for meals or anything like that, but if you all have any suggestions please let Matt G or I know!
Well done JP, Michelle and I will stay at the old Windward shores motel on torch lake if we go to the outing. They are Technically retired and closed but still rent a couple of rooms cash at 50.00 per night. Is there going to be central camp fire at your cabin after each day? cook outs? Planning meals will be an important thing for us as funds are limited. We most likely will only make two of the three days driving up and fishing the first day staying over one night and driving back after the second day. We are going to fish Ellsworth and Wilson most likely. Weather will be a big factor for us. Mike and Michelle
I wouldn't miss an outting in my neck of the woods for anything. I will most likely be commuting most days and probably sitting around the campfire at one of your cabins.
Guys! Start making plans now and do your best to come to this. The upper chain in September is one of the most beautiful and rewarding places to fish. Where else can you hop from one lake to the next and have a shot at 50"+ fish in every lake. The best part about the chain is that there is literally no Muskie pressure and fish eat away from the boat the majority of the time. It's a blast.
Well, we are full at Yettaws… As far as I know there is one cabin left at Cedars on Benway. I should have added to the original post that there is camping available at Thurston park in Central Lake.

Its looking like we are going to have a pretty good turnout this year! If anyone is planning on camping at either place, and is willing to have some people hang out with you, it would be great to have you put it up here.

I forgot about them! I spend so much time on the upper half that I get a bit of a one tracked mind. I stayed there for a week when I was a little kid, and it is a pretty decent place, with very nice people that run it. There have been a couple of you all that wanted space in Yettaws, but we are full, if you could get together here or the other place at cedars that would be awesome!
With less than two weeks left, Im gettin kinda excited to go fishing.
We are going to have a great turnout. Because of this, I would really like to know if you are coming. If you can confirm to me that you are coming, and who is coming with you, it would really help. We are planning a cookout on Saturday at Thurston Park on Intermediate lake, and a head count would be good for planning that.
Oh, and there are TV's Yettaws cabins, so if you really want to see MSU scrape by Youngstown State, or U of M destroy Akron, or bucky taking on the sun devils… its available [smilie=brows.gif]
There is a bed and breakfast i think that is what it is right in town by intermediate that has a downstairs bar that was open last year that Adam and I stopped at. They have 4 or 5 Flatscreens and some decent beer prices.
They should have all the games on saturday if people want to watch there as well.
