DU, Will, Anybody,
Is there any chance we can put together an outing in the U.P.?
I know that a good number of our members head up there throughout the year plus the non-troll(live above the bridge) MMA members wouldn't have to travel 20 hours to attend.
Just curious, if there is any desire, and yes I may have an ulterior motive with this. [smilie=shrug.gif]

Anybody really interested?

I have asked Dave to put together a list of possible outings for 2008. We discussed some options at the October meeting without Dave but I haven't seen anything from him. I want to see the 2008 schedule wrapped up by November at the latest.

Here's what we know:
– end of March/early April (Ice Out Challunge)
– first weekend of May (Cedars Resort) Different from years past where there will be no lunch. This will be a fishing weekend at the resort.
– second weekend of July (Fish Fest)
– first Saturday of November (Bruce Memorial)

Michelle and I love the U.P. , There are many lakes and campgrounds. We have a big Generator for battery charging. We will try to attend. Prefer May,June- september(third week) Best times to be up there. Mike and Michelle

looking at your list….asa…you`ve already done the work there also and I did…ummm…..about 1 hour of club related work last year….the group outing intermediate will be there..yum..yum…no pavillion/break of the day..new settings..might have to do a POLL for outside interest/bridge/canada/up etc..Even if it`s 4-7 boats…..gotta hunch..jobs/people/board…etc…I`d be game.Curve ball……..don`t think a lot of people would want to do small numbers/small fish lakes for the drive.?????????If you`re only in it for the HOG hunt….schultz would go down the ROAD for something else……I THINK and I`m saying OUT LOUD..it should be a FUN trip/camping,cabins,etc..kids…unless we opt for MN or CA….IMHO…

Be more than willing to do some detective work/accommadations…but my funds could be very light for deposit thru DU…… 💡

That may well be a better attended event then any outing. More like a group get together, those who want to pound water 12-16 hours a day can or if ya just want to fish a little and hangout and bs thats an option as well. Lodge/cabins/campground??? The UP would cut travel time in half or better compaired to CA, MN as well.

Nope, I didn't do any work… we talked about it at the meeting and those are the ones that we decided were the annual events. Any day outings could be organized here on the forum(unofficial outing). Something like: anyone interested in showing up at Lake XYZ on Saturday and hanging out for lunch reply to this message. That way we don't have a member (or his wife) doing a bunch of work for an outing and only two boats show.

It sounds like someone already might have a good UP location in mind.

The closest thing we've ever done to a "trip" is the TC area weekend outings. It would be cool to start and annual deal at a resort and we always go at the same time each year.

St Clair on Anchor Bay the third week of June would be a great option. There are some inexpensive places to stay on and off the water.

There is a fantastic place to camp near Crystal falls. Short drives from Bewabic state park to Chicagon, Stanley, Paint river, Peavy Pond, Smokey and Lake Emily. Numbers, hogs , this area has it all. There have been tremendous Muskies caught in both Chicagon and Smokey. High numbers in Emily and the Paint river. Michelle and I would be happy to help plan an outing if it were held there. I think we've found something great at Cedars, nice people (the owners), reasonably priced, enough cabins and nearby camping.

Where is there a resort like this in the UP???

The Crystal Falls area has motels and Campgrounds(Bewabic state park) also there are cottages on Lake Emily. Chad you can launch your Ranger at any of the ramps in this area. The Paint river might get a little shallow for that boat but all the others I mentioned would be a walk in the park.

A pre Memorial day trip or a late september trip to this area would be a great time as the pleasure boat traffic on Smokey and Chicagon would be low. Mike

Will,

I think I know what he has in mind and it would be similar to the Cedars arrangement with proximal camping and an assortment of lakes within a reasonable radius, oh yeah and a shot at a seventy incher….

Tim has a relative on Chicagon. 60 not 70". There are some real good fish in that general area. Like 5 lakes all within 20 minutes from a central location like Emily cottages or the State park. We go up there every year because we see big fish every year. Mike
