Under normal weather/seasonal patterns(not ridiculously hot like last year) would mid to late June still be considered spring tactics for the western UP? Would I be better served to downsize my tackle/lures in hopes of a better chance at catching a muskie or two? With that being said, any suggestions on good early season rods and reels? Thinking maybe low profile for a reel.
Michelle and I have fished the western side in Late May ,Early June and found them to be post spawn suspended in Lakes like Smokey and Chicagon. Emily was a tough bite early not sure why. Peavy pond was also tough in the spring. Could be still spawning in normal temps. June is normally real good up there 2nd week if its not too hot. Mike

Should be a great time to be up there. Wouldn't worry too much about having to downsize, but you certainly could. If so, I am partial to the quantum smoke 150 series reels with a 7'6" or 8' mania rod. Pretty fun set up, but if you get into a 35 lber expect to get manhandled a bit!
Shoot me a pm if you want some west side early summer details, got a few spots you'll see fish.
