Ok, I know it's a little crazy but my goal to sorta transform my 20.5ft Stratos bowrider into a fishing boat. It's mainly a tube/ski/family boat but works great in any water deep and shallow. I'm mounting down-east rails for trolling and working with Mike King on all the correct details. Are any of you guys experts on trolling motors? I understand the importance of boat control and really need one on. My bowrider seems as if it's possible to mount one but wondering if it would even work properly? My boat doesn't sit so low into the water like bass or aluminum boats. I'd probably like to go with a wireless control so I could be fishing anywhere in the boat and be able to use it without a foot pedal because the front doesn't have a flat surface. I could put one on the back of the boat clamped onto the platform but prefer to put it up on the bow. There are rails up front but there is an opening for it to be mounted. I've been to cabelas and nobody seemed to be able to really give me a straight answer. I know I really need a fishing boat but this is all I got and it works great for all purposes. I'm trying to make the best of it for fishing. Anyone have experience or know somebody who specializes in trolling motors please let me know.
1988 Stratos 2000XLS, it has a OMC 5.7L V8,260HP
length- 20.5ft
beam- 96"
It's more a a family ski boat but I've use it for fishing more than anything else. We always go up to Mullet/Burt lakes every summer and it's a safe boat when weather strikes. I also have spent lots on time out on LSC with it as well.
I don't think a bow mount 60" shaft will work on that boat. I think your options are to go with a transom mount on a kicker bracket or an engine mount electric.
Here's the engine mount.
