I posted this on muskiefirst and got a little help but I could use some more. I just bought a used boat, a 92 lund 1890 Pro-V tiller. I am having trouble with the wiring on the trolling motor. Its a 24v motorguide wireless that Im putting on it. The boat has a 3 prong outlet in the bow for the trolling motor. The male 3 prong plug that gets plugged into the boat has 3 wires coming out of it, a reg, black, orange. The power cord from the trolling motor has a black and red. So what is the orange for? I am thinking that the red on the 3 prong plug is for a 12v set up? There are also 2 sets of wires for the trolling motor that run from the plug into the battery well, and Im not real sure why there are 2 sets? It is all the original wiring in the boat.
It's kind of hard to explain but hopefully somebody understands my problem and can help me out. Thanks

If memory serves me correctly, and the boat is wire properly, when you plug the plug into the receptacle, the black lead will be for ground, the red lead will be for 12V, and the orange lead will be 24V.

That is of course if you have 2 trolling motor batteries installed.

Use the lead that gives you the power you need and cap off the other.

Call Lund, and they will give you a wiring schematic for your boat.

Wire the TM red/black wires to the red/black on the plug don't worry about the orange. The red/black leading to the batteries from the receptacle will go to the batteries. The red will go to the positive on one battery and the black will go to negative on the other battery. One of the red wires leading to the batteries will have a breaker on it, use that wire. If it doesn't have a breaker on it and has an inline fuse, install a breaker. You will then connect the other positive and negative battery terminals to each other with a short jump wire. This will give you 24v to the TM. With this set up you don't need the second set of wires.

Usually the 2nd power wire is a separate voltage input, marine use for the orange pigtail for your application is usually 24v like Lucky dog said.

Here is an example for a Lund:
