Planning on heading to LSC Saturday with the goal of getting my wife her first muskie. We're going to primarily be trolling and I'd like to find some deep main lake weeds (us side). On the map it looks like there is some good water around the st Clair light/wreck area. I have also been reading reports from the walleye guys catching incidental muskie at the mouth of the south Chanel. So I'm thinking if we work between the light & the Chanel we should be able to make something happen. Has anyone fished this area recently or in past years this time of year? We're going to burn some fuel getting over there & back and I don't want it to be a waisted effort if there is somewhere closer to 9 mile would be worth a try.
If your going to stick to American water anywhere out there near the shipping channel is a decent bet from south channel mouth to firecracker to st clair light and beyond down towards the dumps. Some things to be prepared for. That's a long ways out so if it looks like there is going to be any wind or increasing wind you do not want to get stuck out there in steep 3+ footers, trust me, I know! Also at times there can be so much floating grass crap out there that it makes it basically impossible to troll, this is largely a day to day problem that is dependent on recent winds. Since you mentioned the wreck, be aware the weed beds here will be very high by now, nearly to the surface so unless you run very shallow lures it will be basically impossible to troll through the middle of that, you will have to work the outsides.
They are calling for 9mph winds from the south. I don't think that is to bad we will be fishing out of a 22' Trophy. I would really like to do some casting as well but was thinking it would be easier to get my wife hooked up trolling. If the weeds are as you describe out by the wreck I may try casting Out there. Thanks for the pointers hopefully ill have a good report to post after Saturday.
