What kind of Rods and reels do you guys like for trolling big lures? Like for 10 inch Loke's and 14 inch Jake's? And how hard do you set the drags? I've ben useing 10 ft ugly sticks dipsy rods. I'm just thinking it is alot of pull on the rods at 4.5 to 5.0 mph. Also what about heaver line like 50 lb for pulling big lures this fall.

Thanks LeMay OUT

If I was going to troll the BIG stuff a lot, like Deepthreats and other hard pulling baits I would rig with 130# braid and a 200# flouro leader. The rod would be a 7' graphite glass composite.

Most other baits like a 10" jake, 13" grandma, 10" believer, etc. don't really pull that hard and normal muskie trolling tackle will handle them.

My drag settings with the big baits are set just tight enough so that if you pull the rod forward quickly, with the lure in the water, the drag will slip. This is a tighter drag setting than I would normally use.
