I am heading to Traverse City with my travel lacrosse team in the last week of July. Are there any good musky lakes nearby or a good lake within 2 hours to go to for a day trip? Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Nope. Nothin'. [smilie=biggrin.gif]
Do you clasify "good" with Big Muskies, or big numbers? If it's the latter, then definately not.

I would be taking my 9 year old son so numbers are the best choice and if it had decent pike in it that would be a kicker. I know there is decent water up there but alot of it is big water and I would not be opposed to hiring a good guide.

Margrethe is your best bet for numbers and about 45 minutes from TC

Chain of lakes is the obvious answer but its large water with low numbers, Skegemog will be your best shot at some mixed species, I always manage to land some pike and smallmouths between muskies.

Hiring Will is a must. You'll increase your chances dramatically.

Take your son up to one of the upper chain lakes like Wilson. You can catch tons of smaller pike just trolling around. A 9 year old would have a blast. Clam Lake is another great spot for this with the pike being a little bigger but nothing huge usually. The east side of Clam in front of the Grass River inlet is the best place for this.

Plus with all these lakes you always have a shot at a muskie for dad and your son can take all those little pike.
