Jason, you could have 2 tourneys. One for St. Clair & Detroit river and the other inland lakes. Maybe have a championship, where the two winners will fish one day on St. Clair or Detroit river and another day on a inland lake and the combined scores will give you the big winner, just a thought.

If a team from east side of state[Lake St Clair]had to fish a team that fished only inland waters they would have a advantage over a team that only fished St Clair?Just saying!

That was mentioned already.. It would probably be limited to Inland lake vs Inland lake. Not unrealistic Musky fishery versus low density inland lakes

Or, let's call it the west side match fishing contest, or everyone else can drive to St Clair on Match night, as all us Easterners will have to drive for hours to get to an inland musky lake….too bad there's 0 stocking over here. Or maybe we need another east side chapter that doesn't exclude members from club events based on their location ( by proxy….can't be driving 2hours to match fish), or proximity to better lakes than others have available to them.

And there's the problem with something like this when you have a statewide organization, someone will feel excluded. The reason I never pursued this was because MMA is, first and foremost, a conservation organization and outings not tournaments make better fellowship. The best solution, to include everyone, is to have a "trail" that encompasses many waters on set dates (inland and LSC/DR). That said, is MMA in the tournament business or is it in the business of making a better fishery through P.R.E.?

My opinion was/is that something like this needs to be a non-MMA organized event.

It's not a matter of exclusion…..just principal. No different than if I proposed a St.Clair only match fishing and everyone else drove a couple hours to fish each time. Or what if I said, "let's have match fishing, but let's leave everyone that doesn't live by st Clair out, because the other lakes can't compete, and won't even be a challenge"…..an overstatement to make a point. It is more than possible to blanked on St Clair. I unfortunately, have experienced it many times.

Most of the people saying LSC would be an unfair advantage don't actually fish there much, I can tell you it can totally suck a lot! Sure when its on it can be phenom but I've had just as many multifish days on inland lakes when they are clicking (although its rarer now). Really I don't think we should over complicate things and we should just add 1-3 more ovid style weekend tournaments to the schedule. One or 2 of those could be on LSC in july/aug when water temps on inland lakes are very hot anyways? Maybe have a championship for those that fish 2 or 3 of them and "qualify".

Now I see why we don't do Match Fishing anymore lol.
I might just quick make a facebook page for 'Muskie Tournament Night' that way it's completely separate from MMA and EVERYONE from around the state can compete.

LSC would be an advantage, but I would rather include than exclude… not that I would partake either way.

Sorry Jason, didnt mean to hi jack your thread and flood it with negative over tones! I should have made my point a little more gracefully….not really my game, especially after a beer or 6.

Like you said, MMA is first and foremost (or Farmers 😀 ) a conservation group. I would like to see MMA in the business of making this state a better fishery, but grow stronger through its member relationships by use of tournaments and outings.

Yes, Brett. You just settle down, and put your game face on! I expect to see you at the outing on the 21st over in Anchor Bay, and then for a Burger/Beer at The Raft. [smilie=biggrin.gif]
