I seem to ask about this every year, but would people be interested in doing Match Fishing again or maybe doing a tournament night each night? I think Will talked about doing a tournament night 'x' amount of times throughout the year and an angler had to participate in at least 70% of them to be eligible for the championship. The tournament night option might be easier as it got a little tricky sometimes trying to find a day that worked for both teams in Match Fishing.

What's it entail Jason? I'm not familiar with match fishing but it sounds like fun.

I think when we talked about this before it was that there would be 10-12 dates that would vary from weekdays to weekends, with start times also varying. For instance, if there was a qualifying day set for June 20th the tournament time for that day might be 5:01 am to 5:01 pm. The next weekday date might have the time from 12:01 pm to 12:01 am. Anglers would be able to fish anytime during these hours. This should accommodate most schedules.

Waters fished:
You can fish any Michigan waters on qualifier days.

Qualifying:
You could fish one or all of the dates but you would only be able to count fish points from four of the qualifying days. The championship date/water would be set at the start to give people enough advance notice to get the time off. The top five teams would be eligible for the championship.

Match fishing was pretty fun, but it was tough finding a date to fish against the opposing team sometimes. I forgot the exact format, but basically an angler pairs up with another person to make a team. That team was placed in a group with usually three other teams, and then the teams would take turns fishing against each other throughout the Summer. So, team A would fish against team B on day 'x', then against team C on day 'y', then against team D on day 'z'. The teams would coordinate which days and time the matches would be and there would be a secret item which would have to be in the picture to prove a fish was caught that day. We would go by Muskies Inc. scoring system and then a team would advance out of the group by either a Win/Loss system or on total points of fish caught. Then if there were three groups, the winner of each group would pick a day/time to fish for the championship. And I forgot to mention each team can fish whichever lake they wanted. So, team A is from GR and they fish Murray while team B is from Lansing so they fish Ovid.

I like this idea better than Match Fishing and I think more people would participate as there would be a good amount of dates to choose from to fish.

When we did match fishing we said it could be individual or team but only the fish caught by the individual registered would count toward points. The "team" has to be registered as such and only one sub would be allowed.

Individuals should be fine as long as he or she gets a picture with the secret item.
Gosh, Will keeps beating me to it!

That's a very good question is this an inland water "trail" or any water in MI. Though match fishing was always an any water situation a team that is St Clair/DR adjacent has a real advantage over a team based in any other part of Michigan. Granted the top five teams qualify for the final but if there are five teams near LSC/DR my money is on those five to be in the championship. If Jason decides to pursue this I think that's a question that will have to be answered.

Lets roll! Match Fishing was fun. I think our final match in 2009 had an LSC crew in the mix. It was also the last great year of fishing Austin, which produced the winning fish …. but I am optimistic about its' return.

so if we do a "team" for this do we have to be in the boat at the same time, or can myself and someone else both fish during the match times as long as we have the item needed like will mentioned

I would take team to mean on or two anglers in a boat. Two anglers in two separate boats would be two teams.

Anglers on the same team would have to fish out of the same boat. I guess I can see both sides of the LSC question; people fishing that lake will most likely win, but if we just make it inland lakes then people from Detroit probably won't participate.
