I’ve thought about this a bunch of times but never have targeted them through the ice. I think partly to give them a break from a pretty relentless open water season, but also mixed feelings on how long it may take to get to a tip up after a musky may take a bait deep, etc.
Anyway, at the bait store this week a guy shows me a pic of a very good Eagle Lake muskie and they’ve been targeting them there. Releasing them fortunately, but I kinda’ cringed thinking of the common way people fish tip ups for pike, with too long of waits, fish flopping on the ice etc.
Just a random thought while checking the MMA page, wondering if others know of other lakes being hit with tip ups for muskies this winter with such good ice, though of course spearing is way worse. Nothing we can do as long as the winter muskie anglers are following the rules, which have become much better thanks to MMA.
I wanted to get one on a tip-up. I wanted to do this on Diane. Get it out of the hole and get a guess at the size and stick it back in the hole. To late now, haven't done any ice fishing in the last 3 years. I have a bunch of tip-ups, rods, 2 hand augers and a jet sled and will get pictures of this stuff and sell it on here and give the money to MMA.
