Well, this morning, I got a phone call at about 5am. It was my mom saying that my sister was in a bad car wreck. It happened at around 2am. It is thought that she was texting on her phone. There were no other cars involved. She rolled the car a few times, and unfortunately, was not wearing her seat belt. She ended up hanging out the window halfway, and was crushed by the car when it rolled. She has broken ribs/sternum, broken back, and a collapsed lung. As of 2:30 this afternoon, her MRI showed no signs of internal bleeding (phew), but did show the damaged back. They are still not sure if there is any spinal cord damage. She is undergoing surgery at Spectrum Health right now. We are all hoping and praying that she will not be paralyzed. Those of you who trust in the Almighty, we covet your prayers.
Please, everyone. Wear your seatbelt. I never used to until I had kids of my own. I feel it is a very selfish thing to do not to wear one.

Thank you all. At this time, I am on the hospital computer. She is just waking up from surgery. She had rods and screws put into her spine to hold everything together. The lower back was the worst off. She still has fractured vertebrae in her upper back that they are going to let heal by themselves. Her sternum was pushed in a few millimeters. The cardiologist was in the OR checking out her heart. If her sternum doesn't go back the way it was, it may be interfering with her heart, and she'll need a plate screwed on to straighten it out. Again, thanks all for your kindness.
Thank you everyone for your concerns, prayers, thoughts, and gestures. I don't ever think I've seen my PM boxes so full!! You guys are some great friends. I am blessed.
Looks like she is going to make a full recovery in 3-6 months. She has already begun some physical therapy and walking a few steps throughout her room. She will have to move back in with Mom and Dad for the constant care she will need. The only thing that is still up in the air is whether or not she will need the plate screwed onto her chest to straighten out her sternum.
Again, thanks all! Have a wonderful day!
Jim, I'm glad to hear she is doing well. She is young and they seem to bounce back quickly. I've seen so much of this on the news, about driving talking on the phone, texting and not wearing belts, driving fast. But I guess when we are young we think we are invinceable. The way life is now, we all need to stop and smell the roses. I'm really glad to hear she is going to be O.K. ! I see who got the good looks in the family! (just kidding)
What a terrible ordeal! I'm so glad your sister is making progress, Jim.
