So I got two surprise fishing trips yesterday, which I will never complain about!

First was a few hours on Murray flying solo, about 9:30 to 12:30, saw a few of you out there and it was nice to say hi and meet some new guys btw. I fished for about an hour without seeing much but bluegills off the weed edges, then moved to a little spot that I see most people go right passed because the water 100' farther is bigger and seems better. About the 3rd cast thru I had an upper 40's fish slam a jerk bait… with its mouth shut! then follow right under the back hook nosing it all the way to the boat. It would have been a PB for sure and one heckuva fish for sure.

Second trip was to the middle part of the white. My bro lives on the river and has been telling me the grey drakes have coming for a few days, so I packed in the 4 wt and drove north. I got out there and there were clouds of Iso's over a couple open parts of the river, and the log jams below were loaded with fish. After catching a few mid teens fish, I went to where I have rolled a MONSTER on spinning gear earlier in the year. I mean like pushing 2 1/2 feet monster brown. I let me brother cast at a few times before he snagged and broke of, so I stepped in, and heard a slurp… 5 consecutive slurps, and got excited, I waited about 10 minutes and it went again, 5-6 times in a row, so I waited a little while longer, rolled a cast out, and heard a slurp, fish on, and it was huge! damned 4 wt anyhow…….

Man that stinks but awesome at the same time. Here is what I want to know, if you could have landed just one, which would you rather have, the 30 inch brown or the 48 inch muskie?

Ugh… I guess that's what keeps us coming back.

I know which I would have picked.

A 4wt?! Always better to be overgunned than undergunned. [smilie=wink.gif]

Nice to meet you yesterday. Sucks that big girl didn't eat. It was follow city for us with only one skinny mid 30s fish making it to the net.

Each of my brothers had borrowed my 6 wts in the weeks before, one "left" his in GR, the other broke the reel… so it was 10 wt, or 4 wt…. ah well, it made the mid teens seem like monsters!

As for choosing, I'd take the brown in the 28-30 range any day, unless I was on the upper chain and it was in the 50's! In that stretch there are lots of 20-22" browns, but till I saw that one a couple weeks ago, that size was unthinkable!

I was gonna say a brown in that size class on that stretch of river is prolly way rarer than a upper 40s muskies. That being said I'd still take the muskie.

Great brown! I have a hard time finding the motivation to chase the drakes and hexes the last couple summers. This picture helps. [smilie=2thumbsup.gif]
