Last August Matt and I fished the Tahq and ended up with 2 tagged fish. I had planned on posting this under that lake report but just yesterday got the letters back from the DNR and that thread is now locked.
"The Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Fisheries Division woud like to thank you for reporting your tagged fish caught in the Tahquamenon River. The Eastern Lake Superior Management Unit, Newberry field crew placed jaw tags in 98 muskies from the Dollarville Flooding down to the Tahquamenon River mouth. Efforts to tag the muskies occurred from May through August of 2013. When tagging the muskies, data was collected from each fish including total length, location of capture, fish condition, and gender (if identifiable). Also collected was a spine sample from the dorsal fin for age determination. Fisheries managers use tagging data for the purposes of muskie management in Michigan lakes and streams. The returned tagging data is used to help estimate the amount of angling pressure, determine fish growth, and evaluate spatial distribution (movement) of the muskie in that waterbody."
both fish were tsgged on 7/22/13 in the same basic spots I caught them. Tag #89 was 33.5" and was a 5 year old male. Tag #81 was 36.4" and was a 10 year old female.

Makes me wonder if that was really a female with the male showing average growth for a 5 YO.
That was my thought as well, and considering they were captured and tagged in July (Boom shocking?) it would seem guessing the sex of the fish would be fairly tricky and easy to make a mistake.

Man that tiger is lookin rough! I shouldn't mention anything about the way the Newberry crew tends to handle fish for sampling/tagging, but can't help but wonder what alien abduction story he could tell?…
That explains the raw pink marks on both of the fish I caught. It looked like someone had a death grip around the base of the tails.
