I am thinking of heading to the UP this weekend. Looking at Google maps I think I would like to try to hit Spider Bay near Newberry. Has anyone ever fished this part of the river and if so is there an easy route to get to Spider Bay? Looks like McPhee's might be the only option but it looks like that could be a slow trip.

Thanks!!!

It is a long, slow trip from McPhees, but its not like Spider is big enough to spend a lot of time in anyway. So you can fish that whole stretch to fill your time.

Worth the time? Most likely going to hit some other lakes in the area. Would you just hit McKeever, Cusino, etc????

Be careful on the river…record low levels are exposing lots of shoals and deadheads (my prop can attest!) Mckeever is a beaut with plenty of fish…quite clear, so don't be afraid to try some EXTREME speed.

Depends what you mean by worth it? The river through there is a real different experience for most folks because it is small. But I don't know what you are going for? For me, any piece of water that has a single musky in it, or even a theoretical musky in it, has been worth the time to me. But now that I am kindof on the big-fish-only trail for the most part, my boat is not taking on much tannin stain from the Tahq any more…
