My name is JP…and I have a problem…
I need to find a way to store some stuff. I was curious if the big plano 3730 boxes are an ok way to store big rubber? I need to expand into another box and thought maybe the lakewood 5-pac magnum would work. Any other sugggestions for storing dawgs and bucktails? I currently have them in a vertical hanging type box and it bugs me so I'm going to fix it!

I use the 3700… I think?? For dawgs. It's same size as the 3730 w/o the dividers. It has no dividers and I can store 4-5 pounders in each. It works fine for me. During rough waves you'll get them stuck together with hooks if you don't mind but I know guys who use "hook guards" for the big trebles of a dawg and they work great. When fishing and using dawgs I have some large plastic tubes (5) glued together and on my front deck in the pole of my pedestal seat and I can store them in there perfectly when fishing.

I use these models for big rubber and they work great. I use the ones with dividers for mag dawgs and the ones without dividers for pounders.

JP, I use a Lakewood box (the big one) for most of my lures. Bulldawgs have always given me a storage fit…I only have the 9 inchers and a few of the smaller spring ones, no pounders for me. I…Also use the 3700 for the flies I am bringing to try and get one to bite on the 10 weight.heeee…Scott

Why does the vertical hang bug you? Just curious. I use two Just Encase boxes I had made for my boat, so that's what I was going to recommend. But Bob can make you a box with horizontal drawers or trays that would work well if you don't like vertical.

If I had a solid vertical box like that it would be a lot better, but I have a flambeau, in which the dividers are separate pieces, and the hooks and tails get hooked on the channels and under the removeable dividers… if that makes sense.
Also for the bucks I built, they are split, slumbers and tails, so compartments would be nice for the separate pieces.

I have the big Flambeau box, too. I found that if I take out one of the dividers that run from front to back and make a row of double-wide slots, I can fit two magnum dawgs in each slot with much less trouble with the hooks hanging up on the bosses on the dividers. I have two rows like this, one on the left and one on the right, so I can hang a total of 20 mag dawgs.

IMO there isn't a more efficeint way to store baits, of any kind, than in the 3730 or 3731 boxes, I can fit at least 12 mag-dawgs in a 3700. The only drawback to this is when jumping into someone elses boat. The 5-pac would be a good way to keep those boxes organized and easy to grab if going in another boat. There are also rectangle duffle bags out there that will function well as a ginormous tackle bag.

I just bought this Super Magnum bag from cabelas which holds seven 3730-31 boxes and more. It has a hard bottom, and is a relatively easy way to carry a bunch of these boxes. It was about $45 on sale, without boxes.

Me love it long time!! I'm going to look into one of those. And I love the idea of a hard bottom. *snicker*

I thought about one of those… I might do it because there is a place to keep terminal tackle and tools and stuff. I have the magnum size that holds 8 3700's for all of my walleye stuff, and it has been pretty good to me.

i have one of those bags for carrying other plano's, but now i stuff a bunch of the bigger boxes in it.

Good for carrying onto another boat like Will said, but unless they came out with waterproof pockets don't put anything in them that can rust.

When it rains those things soak up a lot of water

These will fit into some hatches, and fold away when not needed..and the price is right.

The two smaller zippered pouches on the front are supposed to be waterproofed for cell phones and cameras, as is a large "map pocket" on the underside of the top flap which should also keep at least some rain from getting inside, too. We'll see.

I have that magnum bag mostly because I am a Cabelas junkie, but it does work great. I use it for going out on the big lake and can interchange all the boxes, the side pouches hold a 3600 also….Some times I only load it half way with boxes and the rest with clothes, rain gear, food, etc if I am climbing on somebody elses boat..I would recommend the bag…
