Has anyone purchased Tackle Industries X heavy rods (4-12 oz) with the interchangable 6" and 12" ends….I did this March after hearing that they were OK rods. In May both screw in cork butts had broke, customer service (James) was quick to respond with E-Mail, but failed to replace them until a month later after multiple reminders. I finally got the "new and Improved" sections before my most recent trip. While casting I kept hearing a slight cracking noise in the end of the rod that had me grinding my teeth. On the last day I was setting the blades to initiate a DCG-10 and catastropic failure occured. The rod exploded leaving me with the butt end as I watched my Shimano 400B dive into the water with the rest of the rod. Luckily, I had the sense to throw a marker buoy, had light over head, and was on chicagon….otherwise all would have been lost. Picked it off the lake floor with a dawg, duct taped, and wire tied it to fish, but was forced to downsize lures and proceeded to miss out on some hot action! Havent contacted customer service yet, but am wondering if I should ship the rod back and try for a refund as opposed to replacment….
Uhh…I just recently had a problem with that same rod. No problems with the handles though. I had just lost two fish while jigging a Bondy bait. I second guessed myself that maybe I didn't set the hook good enough. I told my buddy that if I get another hit I'm making sure I drive the hooks home. Well, when that hit came, I let her have it! And heard SNAP!!! My buddy and I just looked at each other like this 😯 . Then he tells me my line was moving. I reeled up the slack in time to know that my bait had been spit out. 👿. I ended the day 0-3. He was 2-2 for a perfect 5-5 total on the Bondy bait.
Anyways, James replaced it for 50 bucks with a telescopic 9ft. XXH. I have the feeling that one is going to snap as well. We'll see I guess.
Ive been using this rod for 2 years and I did have to superglue the aluminum rod onto the handle but other than that Ive never had a problem,I wish it was a one piece rod though. I have three of his rods, three different models, and like them all. I talked to James( the owner of tackle Ind.) at the Michigan musky show and told him about some busted lips on some baits and he had some shiped to me in a few days without charge. He is a very nice guy that is busting his butt trying to run a business and doesnt want bad press, Im sure he will make it right with you.Smart thinking with the marker!! Im glad you got your gear back.
I definately have no problems with how he handled my issue. I told him what happened, e-mailed him pics of the rod (which I happened to take a pic of right after the incident while still on the water), he had the replacement sent out next day. If I hadn't bought it from him on e-bay, the replacement would of probably been free.
