Got some questions about the new FX2 braid at the banquet and thought I would share some of the reasons why this line is superior to others. I need to thank Pete LeBaron for gathering much of this info directly from Sunline.
I tested the 80# line from early fall through ice up last season, more than enough hours on the water to understand what I had. I have used the rest and it doesn’t take long to recognize when you have something that no one else has come close to producing. In my opinion the reason the FX2 is so much better is because Sunline, with all their lines, is ahead of the competition when it comes to construction. The tolerances are better, the building process is better and their R&D seems to be light years ahead.
What makes the FX2 superior:
– Controlling the crystallization of the micro strands
– More uniform and tight bundling of polymer chains making a primary strand that is more dense
– High level of quality control sorting and eliminating imperfect strands
– With a more dense primary strand the braid can be weaved under higher tension
– Higher tension creates a tighter weave than the competition
– A tighter weave creates a round braid that doesn’t flatten like all other braids
– A tighter weave with less void spaces doesn’t pick up water like other braids
– Other braids attempt to use a coating to fill voids and this, as we all know, wears off quickly
– The tighter, nearly void free, braid creates a higher tensile strength at a thinner diameter
The line is available in green and a green/blue camo. I've asked that they produce a line for muskie anglers that is white, we may see that this season. There have also been requests from the bass guys that use this for flippin for a white line.
I like how Power pro turns white and will be looking for this new line. Our next re spooling is due next season for all our casting rods. I still have several hundred yards of power pro to use up. I have always been happy with power pro. Never one failure. Ill be curious to see the price difference as well. But yes I want it white or very light green/blue. Mike

I fished this season for Tarpon with Sunline FX2 (green/blue) and Suffix 832 (ghost) and really like both of these lines. There's just something about that Sunline that makes it feel so damn smooth!! What a great line!!
I will be trying some. Nothing makes me feel more secure musky fishing then good line and new leaders. Mike

Any updates/recommendations on the FX2 or other new lines to use?
Another vote for the FX2. My first time using it was this spring with cold temps, and one of the best things about it was how it didn't hold water. It was virtually nonexistent. My hands stayed dry. You can immediately tell how much more consistently round the line is also just in your casting. Great line!!
