I remember it being discussed on here a year or two ago about doctoring suicks. Someone mentioned something they do to the tail end (other than bend it) to make it dance. The problem was, no one let the cat out of the bag on what was actually done. I guess it is a big secret lol. If anyone would be so kind to show me something I can do to to make my suicks better, feel free to pm me. It was and still is one of my least favorite lures straight out of the box, but I know it has been a proven fish catcher by people who know how to tinker with it.

Abomb,
Here are a few things that I do. I actually caught my very first musky (tiger) on a suick back in the 70's so they've always had a spot in my starting lineup.
-Bend tips of tail down, dog ear..this will add wobble. you can bend up as well. You can also play with angle of lip to add more depth.
-Change line tie insertion point…move up or down
-Add weight for added hang time
-Suicks don't always run right and many need to be tuned. If you hold the bait in your hand horizontally and look at it's nose with the hooks hanging down you may notice that the treble hooks have 2 of the 3 hooks all on one side of the bait which may cause the bait to run to one side. simply shift one or two of the hooks so they are offsetting each other
-remove rear hook

Tim is a suick guy, so i would take his tips seriously. I honestly want suicks to produce for me(cause they are easy to throw), but i have not have that much luck with them. I have tried playing around with some of the things Tim highlights, but I can't keep them on long enough to establish confidence. What I would like is a suick lesson, with a bait that is tuned to march right to left on the jerk. Mine just seem to go down an back no matter what i do to them… I can adjust the amount and anglwe they dive easy enough, but the left/right thing has been tough for me to master.

I think a lot of people remove the back hook because it often ends up in the muskie's eye.
That, or if you really want the lure to back up with the tail up, that's the way to do it.
Abomb- one other lure that has a really nice right/left/up/down action is the Reef Hawg. I've been able to raise fish on that when all others have failed.

lol, it is funny you said that, cuz that is a bait I hate even worse. (even though I saw the biggest fish ever follow by buddies reef hog in once) I maybe have given that bait 10 casts and couldn't keep it in the water, it just went all over the place. Straight down, to the side, then next thing you know it pops back up to the surface. Crazy bait. Although, I will say I have never tried the weighted version.

The unweighted has its time and place. It IS tought to keep it down unless you fish it fast. Which sometimes just might be that factor that will get a fishs' attention.
