Well 3rd cast with a new bucktail and off went that lure into the water. My friend just got back his new rod since that other one snapped. Well come to find out the First guide on the end of the rod is completely chipped, like literally looked like someone dug out the top of the guide and chipped it completely. This is unreal, needless to say i doubt he will be getting another st croix rod

what are you guys doing to your rods? I've got 6 St. Croix musky rods, some of which I've been using since 2002, never had a problem, wouldn't fish anything else. The guy I fish with mostly has almost as many… no probs from him either. That doesn't include my two St.croix Salmon rods, and two more bass rods. All excellent and problem free!

Not sure, he just got a brand new one shipped back, didnt look it over pulled it out of its tube, took it fishing and it was like that we assumed, cause he would of literally had to of smashed it into something extremely hard to break parts of the graphite out of the rod tip

Ceramic cracks and chips pretty easily really. The ceramic will break/chip out in a guide or tip top if the rod just falls over and lands on a hard surface. Keep in mind the guides on the rod have nothing to do with St Croix. That could have happened in the shipping process as well.

I will periodically put a Qtip through my eyelets to make sure they have no cracks or breaks in them. If the cotton comes off then you have a problem. There is a guy in Toledo that replaces the eyelets for $10.

yea we talked about it probably happening through the shipping process, i told him its prob not st croix that's the issue, i have a few st croix rods that i use for bass and pike fishing that ive never had any issues with. My friend is just having a string of bad luck it seems lately.

I just had a second one replaced (on the same St. Croix rod) for $6 at a place in Lansing. First it was the third guide down, then the fourth.
