So right now, I understand St. Clair is open for pike? So why don't we go there with our muskie stuff and "go target some pike"? [smilie=brows.gif] In all seriousness, though, how is it that pike season is open? Isn't the muskie season closed to protect the spawners? And LSC completely reliant on natural reproduction. Wouldn't pike fisherman also be interfering with the muskies' cycle?

People do it… If they can sleep at night, so be it. If they are truely targeting pike, no problem. Only they may know inside what they are really after. Last year there were a couple really big pre spawner muskies caught while guys where "pike fishing". One guy was trolling 6 lines with super shad raps… SOund like "pike fishing"?
The same thing happens in Canada when pike season opens up and there are a lot more muskies on some of the lakes up there. A lot of lakes produce big fish early season in canada on small mepps or walleye jig's. Something that will never be avoided.
But if your caught throwing big stuff I believe you can be fined in Canada as they are very strict about targeting muskie out of season

The members of the violators forum in our West Michigan area laugh at the regulations for targeting fish out of season. Example, targeting the big spawning river walleye C/R is done as steelhead fishing. Early bass season regulations were finally changed after years of difficult regulation enforcement. The real question is a matter of ethics, so play legal as much as possible and release accidental catches gently.
Michigan waters that are open include Saginaw bay, Lakes Michigan and Huron, Lake erie below the Detroit river. These waters have no closed season. Big and Little Bays Denoc, Lake superior about finish the list. Its better to just go to Ohio , Indiana or Illinois. Lots of open water there and no closed seasons. Mike
