I know most people tend to use natural color baits in st.clair, but do bright flashy ones ever shine there? I am always afraid to put on anything with chartruse or orange in it. Am I missing out on any fish by doing this?

Hmm… YES! Anywhere you fish you need Light, Dark and Fluorescent, St Clair is no different. Their brain is the size of a pea they don't know that fluorescent colored lures aren't "natural".

Well, there is something to say for using the right colors on this lake while trolling. Orange belly baits and yellow belly baits when its dirty ,naturals when its clear. Down rods when its rough and Board rods when its clear and calm. Dont be fooled by the myth that Muskies wont eat when its bluebird and water is gin clear. We caught two 49 inchers under those conditions. Planer boards out 75 feet running tans and browns like the Coco Perch and brown Sucker patterns. White belly perch and bass patterns work best in that light stained water inbetween the clear and dirty. For us it was all about water color and fishing the lures that worked in the different levels of Stain that St. Clair is known for. Mike and Michelle

huh, ok. I guess I get in these rigid ways of thinking. Clear water means this….murky means that… Plus I think I take all these so called pros advise as gospel on videos etc.
