Well this is rather disturbing, these guys are big spearers that live in kalamazoo. Not sure if its Austin lake or not. From what I can gather this is not exactly their first muskie harpoonage.

It probably is Austin, there are a few musky spearing videos on youtube from there.

"Ices another monster muskie" In other words another one over the legal yearly limit. What a joke.

I don't believe that fish was even very close to 42", do you think? Looked like a mid to upper 30's to me, but I could be wrong.

Not directly related to this but, a few weeks back came across an article on crsigslist about a guy renting his shanty for "trophy pike and musky spearing" on torch. I left him a message asking what the point in killing a musky was and he responded with some rather rude comments claiming to have killed several fish thus far. When I messaged him back informing him of the musky tag law he recanted quickly saying he meant to say he killed northern…..I'd like to spear him.

I have no idea but that brings up an important point. When you allow something like spearing where the fish is dead before it can be measured size limits as a management tool essentially go out the window. It would be like asking deer hunters to not shoot anything under 130 pounds. An expert spearer with a ton of experience can prolly tell + or – 2 inches like we can with a follow but what about the beginners or the people that mainly spear smaller pike and have never seen a fish over 36". And how do they get that experience without killing fish? And then there is the misidentifications and the I just don't care group of muskie spearings.

that fish is too thick to be under 40 inches.. they claim in the vid it is 48, but idk about that either..

Since he used his real name for his youtube page.. you can find his linked in account with a picture of himself.. and says he lives in kzoo so im sure it is him

There are some fairly fat sub legal (39's) males in Austin still. Hey at least he has to tag it and be done spearing for the winter 🙂
