I'm looking for musky location info on South Manistique Lake in the UP. I'll be fishing the opener May 15. I've never been on the lake. Any help is appreciated

Good luck, that lake is a bear to find a musky in. I fished it for a week last year at the end of June. Granted I only fished what I considered primetime for muskies and the rest of my hours were spent fishing the numerous other species the lake offers. There are two shallow weedy bays on the west end of the lake they are actually arms or rivers that come into the lake I would check both of them early in the season. Also, my brother-in-law caught a very fat 38" northern last year that had 3 inches of a ciscoe sticking out of it's mouth. Maybe if you can find those you can find the muskies. Out around the Island should be good to. This lake will really make you mad, it looks better than any other lake I have fished in Michigan sporting points, saddles, neck downs, expansive flats, and every other in-fisherman catch phrase location but the fishing, for muskies is tough. However, if you want to catch small pike, walleyes, and lg and sm mouth bass you are going to the right lake.

BTW I will be going back this year at the end of June, could you keep your eyes peeled for some spawning gills, it will probably be to early, but just in case.

Good luck,

Thanks for the info, Musky Dan. I'll let you know if I see any gills. Up until this recent warm spell, I was concerned I'd have to break ice to launch the boat! Information like you gave me is well worth the cost of membership!

Check around Portage Creek at the North end of the lake. There is a big sucker run there and the muskies will move up to feed in the mouth area. But, as Dan mentioned, don't get your hopes up. There are few muskies in the lake so they are tough to find.
