While doing some research on fishing Thornapple tomorrow I found this list.

It shows two muskies kept. One in 2011 that was 48 inches and another in 2012 that was 46 inches. I thought the size limit on Thornapple was 50? If so is this evidence? Mike
You mean there are rules in Michigan? [smilie=frown.gif]
Hopefully he just hit the wrong button when he entered the fish, or hes trolling us. Why would some dude from Illinois come and kill our fish? I do see that he has a bunch of fish going back several years from thorn and those are the biggest and the only ones listed as "kept". Why would a MI member be keeping fish in this day in age even if he thought it was legal? I don't get it. Anyone know this guy?
I don't know what to make of it. If you hit kept by mistake it prompts you to explain. I think it opens another window or something like that. I am pretty sure the rules for the lake are visible . Maybe he just didn't read them or had two real bad releases. He has been fishing Thornapple for years so he must know. Maybe Will knows him. Like I said I dont know what to make of it. He comes here every September 1st. Im sure someone knows something. Mike

Matt Cozzi is the guys name. The link made me log in this time.
Matt Cozzi has a trailer/camper in the camp ground area. He has been there for years and he hammers that lake. I met him a couple times and he seemed to be a really nice guy. He loves muskie fishing, and Im surprised he may be keeping illegal fish. But, I will say some of the people in that camp ground area are a muskies worst nightmare and yes I speak to that with some experience(long story).
Anyway, Matt has a nice Tracker (Targa I think) like 16 or 17 feet. If I run into him out there I might gently ask a couple questions to him and gauge his response.
In my opinion though, if it hasn't happened already, the DNR needs to have a presence and a laydown of the law within that campground. [smilie=2c.gif]
Well, I just did the research and King is correct he did list those fish as kept.
Even if they went belly-up your still not supposed to keep them. Although they may have been used for the campground fish fry [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif] [smilie=brickwall.gif]
The angler your talking about is Matt Cozzi and he is from the south side of Chicago. Matt has been fishing the lake for about 20 years. He had a camper at the camp ground up until a couple years ago and now lives two houses to the west of me. Matt is a long time Muskies Inc. member and not out here keeping and killing fish. I can only assume that he made a mistake when he logged those fish.
As with any lake in Michigan, it would be nice to see the DNR out here at least once in a while. I have saved many fish over the years from uneducated fisherman thinking they just caught a big pike. With the addition of the GLS strain into Thornapple we really need to make sure we have KTD signs up. Not sure what these uneducated fisherman will think a 24" great lakes Muskie is.
Thanks,
Chris
Good job Chris! It seems every time I've fished Thorn I've been lucky to boat fish and nearly everytime someone's around and they are completely clueless on what were casting for and think the fish in the net is a Pike. A few 37-40"ers and people were shocked to see me put it back. It seems I always seem to find the people on the lake that either A) don't know it's a Muskie and think Pike B) didn't even know Muskie are in lake C) shocked to see me release fish D) really don't understand size limits.
Good job to all making an effort to educate! Very cool

Thanks Chris, when you see him let him know. Jim Bunch can correct the mistakes. I was looking for patterns in regards to certain lures during late may on similar years. The two fish marked as kept kind of caught my eye. Knowing we had a 50 inch size limit on the lake I got concerned about it enough to post here and see if anyone knew him. Im sure he doesn't want his listed fish to make him look like a law breaker. Mike
