That is M-S.com Ranger Ray's favorite quote. He is the M-S mod's favorite idiot from Muskegon.

So the number of lakes that Pike/Musky spearing was NOT allowed in, has been reduced.

So, even more Musky can be speared now.

The number of lakes where spearing is banned has been reduced. Hopefully soon to be offset by reducing the harvest limit to 1 or 2 per year per angler…

Names elude me right now, but I'm pretty sure they are all (or mostly) in the UP. Lakes that have really good natural reproduction, and could actually use some harvest and a lower MSL. Some are lakes that were stocked, then nature kicked in, and now there are a bunch of dinks.

The local violators network has worked closely for years with the recently retired former 91st House District and 34th Senate District Gerry Van Woerkom that lives on Mona Lake (Muskegon). The new Senator Geoff Hansen is even more corrupt. Together their well known hatred of the DNR/DEQ programs and ignorance of fishing paid off to help kill any future GLS program on Mona Lake.

Of that list, I only know of 4 of those that have muskies: Osterhout, Mona, Macatawa, and Brevoort, right? Are there others?
Man, Osterhout is gonna be toast… Why do they always seem to take the spearing ban off the "easy spear" lakes?

You need to work with and support your COs and monitor the sport shops and fishing clubs to follow the violators. I'll assume you know most of your good/bad neighbors. Then you need to always know your state politicians up close and personal by first names. Closely follow their voting records by monitoring the michigan.gov/legislature, and note which politicians have introduced&support all the corrupt legislation attacking our national forest land funding, SB 248, NRTF, etc., and which politicians use their committees to destroy the funding for the DNR/DEQ on behalf of their polluters, developers, and violators. Everything official is on their daily HJ in the legislature site. That's why we have our MUCC and our other DNR networks closely monitoring the politicians that support or not our muskie and outdoor interest. The most corrupt politicians and well known haters of the DNR/DEQ have a political bond wide open for anyone that cares to see.

Chief Ed & Violet also have muskies, but are tiny, isolated lakes. The rest are mostly former tiger lakes- and probably should toss Mona from the "have" to the "former tiger" group, realistically?

Im assuming Oster is being taken off because they want to turn it into a walleye lake…sad, without a 1/year bag limit that lake could be absolutely devestated in a single winter…super clear water with obvious congregation points to set up your shack. You could have a 10 fish day with a spear out there if you werent being regulated…the sad thing is that is probably what they want to happen.

What is the reasoning behind taking Macatawa off the list? I thought that population was very small and barely self sustaining??

Not to mention it would be a future GLS candidate so why allow spearing?
(I would hope it would anyway)

I would hope so too. But after the Upper and Lower chain, Burt, Mullett, and Black get a boost. Muskegon, Manistee, and Macatawa would all be nice. I don't really know the direction of the GLS stocking program. I look forward to someday seeing some results.

It was nice to see Kingston added for protection. That is a real nice lake in the U.P. Michelle and I have fished it many times. I am very sorry to see Osterhout go the route of Austin. All that money wasted. It makes Zero sense to allow those lakes to be speared. ZERO. Mike

No one will spear on Mona. You cant see 12 inches in the water as it is very stained and dirty. No one eats anything out of it either. No loss there.

Too bad about Whitmore & Woodland. I was hoping that after they did the bass study on Whitmore it could get stocked with muskie's because it has got the no spearing ban. Any of these lakes that have been taken off the no spearing ban should no get stocked again. Let these darkhouse guy's stock there own fish to be speared!!

+1 Steve. I too would like a smaller inland lake to be stocked over here on this side. But not if they will just get forked! That's why I think Belleville is a great candidate again for the GLS. Not much ice activity there, it takes a harsh winter. And then, it's only safe for about 2 weeks. Most people don't have the kahones to try it there. And when they go over the dam, no worries of the GLS mingling with another strain.
