Got to try out my new setup for this year: Okuma 9'3 XH with a Saltist 40LW. If you are looking to move some big lures fast this year, try these reels. Usually, when moving these quickly, the hard part is turning the handle and getting forarm burn. The hardest part about this setup especially when BURNING was holding onto the rod so it didn't get pulled into the water! Mine has the 6.4:1 ratio. It's a little bigger reel, and a heavier setup, which took a little getting used to. Also, it has a manual engage, which wasn't as bad as I though it would be. I also threw Pounders with this. With my Calcutta, it seemed I was cranking like crazy to take up the slack. With 47" of line pickup per handle turn, it was basically 1 turn of the handle and I was ready for another pull.

any saltwater style reel is always gonna do work cause of how big the gears are, cant remember which reel my friend has but his does like 38 inches per turn. Pretty cool, cept most the fish around here are so conditioned to double ten's we rarely get any fish to follow any double 10's on lakes like murray or campau anymore

I will be happy to take any DCG that doesn't work for ya. That goes for Kingfisher too [smilie=applause.gif]

I thought Mike had boycotted those and only fished double eights and mag-8's…

Jim, I would order some extra springs (clutch springs), little use with my Saltist and have broke two. Manual engagement is more durable, with the fact that the reel won't engage during the cast with that huge powerhandle. When you feel the lever getting sloppy quit using it, you will do more damage, I know I did it last year, lol.
