FedEx is usually the best option.

How do I package it? Lightweight PCV? Or is there a better option?
Thanks!

You might be able to find someone with some spare cardboard rod tubes laying around. I actually just threw a couple away the other day. I've also heard of people getting them from carpet stores.

I'll check tonight, I might have a few cardboard rod shipping tubes that will fit a 9' rod. Could have it in Caledonia @ work tomorrow if I do.

i just tried… weight wise doesnt matter if you put it pvc or cardboard. id do the prepaid thing thru the manufacturer if they will do it (Stcroix). problem is that all of the shipping companies have a maximum length plus girth of 108" before they start tacking on surcharges. over that fedex wont touch it, ups will do it for about $120 and the postal service will for about $70. if its already broken or something, cut it down to fit 👿 why they can ship me 9' blanks for $14 is a question none of the three is willing to answer, but i think it probably has something to do with volume…

I just shipped a rod through FedEx and it was around $50. I've heard Speedee (?) is the cheapest, but don't think they ship to a lot of places.

I used UPS and they weren't bad, I think Speedee is a WI & MN thing. Put mine in light weight pvc.

Update…..
I went to Lowes, found an old carpet roll (16' long). They gave it to me for free. I wrapped the rod to protect it, sealed the ends and went to FedEx. Shipping for the 9' rod was under $20! Hopefully this is helpful if you find yourself shipping a rod somewhere.

9'3" x 3" tube. Just under 7LBS. They weighed it, measured it, and told me the cost…….. $15.81.

I tried five different shipping centers from Greenville to comstock park… All of them said it was too long. I wish they would get their craps together some days. I'm gonna try to print my own label next time.

Ya I'm not sure why a light cardboard and rod they would charge anything over 50.. I've shipped several rods before all around 17-20.

I can print labels at my work once I enter in dimensions. Anything priority or FedEx is always the cheapest.

Shipping can also change based on where u are sending the rods.

I think it all depends on how the person enters it. USPS is usually best, and I never have any issues with shipping anything, usually $6-11 for anything 8'6" and under. But for some reason when they all measured this one (it was going up to Nick Day) they all went nuts over it and wanted a fortune. I just typed the info into the fed-ex site and it was about $50, but if I went 9' exactly it went down to 20 something… [smilie=bangtard.gif]

I ship stuff all the time at my work and yes if u enter the measurement of the item yourself it affects the shipping greatly.

I had something that was rather heavy but fit in a small box and it was priority but the box held a decent amount of weight. When I changed it and put specific dimensions it altered the price in half
