You've got to be kidding me!! Makes me sick! A 56"er in an inland Michigan lake is so rare. I wonder if the length was a lie? Either way it's a sad story! People don't understand that once a fish is gone, it's gone for good! What a shame! Sorry for those dedicated Muskie anglers who consider Sanford their home waters. Sorry guys!! I feel for ya!!

Hey guys two large musky have been caught and kept in the last week. A 51 inch and 56 inch Musky. Do people not care or are they not aware of what what a 56 inch fish means to a fishiery. Is their anything MMA does to raise awarness on musky lakes?
Can you confirm this? or is it a I heard it from my brothers, sisters, uncles, husband kind of thing? Can you get your hands on pics?

Again does MMA have any programs to help build community awareness on musky lakes?
Check around the MMA web site and you will find several ideas geared to public muskie education. Don't feel alone on trying to help Stanford Lake. Many other lakes have problems including Hamlin Lake with the locals killing muskies of any size, legal or not.

I'm still trying to get some pictures but the bait shop says the 50 inch fish was caught during the Northern pike tournament and the 56 inch fish just a few days later. Again does MMA have any programs to help build community awareness on musky lakes?
Again, check the website MMA does alot….BUT that doesn't mean you
can stop people from keeping a legal fish they catch just because we would let it go.

fish confirmed in an article by Steve Griffin in sunday's Midland Daily News. It was caught below the Sanford Dam in the River. The article includes some quotes from Jim Baker a highlight of which is refering to C&R as "recycling" fish. . Sorry guys but in my opinion, Baker is a tool.
Jim has always been a fan of put and take fisheries. The DNR puts them in the anglers take them out. It is what keeps him in business.
I have been e-mailing with Steve about this and we plan to spend a half a day fishing Sanford together in the next several weeks to discuss my desire that he do an article on the importance of catch and release and using the proper equipment to catch muskies. With any luck I will get him to do a story that talks bout how stocking has been inconsistent in Sanford and that if quality musky fishing is going to continue to be available in Midland Co. folks should consider catch and release and if a true monster is caught, consider a replica and let her swim. I'll let you all know how my efforts turn out on this.
How those two guys got those two fish landed on 8 lb test in the river below the dam is beyond me.
